Some new customs

Just finished shaping Dan's 5'10 diamond tail quad fish and Jack's 5'9 pierformance diamond tail 3/4 convertable. Both look fun, Dan's board is alot like the pierformance boards only with some volume moved forward to make it a little more fishy. Dan's board is very similar to my 5'8 pierformance shortie only tweaked for a lighter rider.

New Prototype, John Smolenski's 7'6 Big Guy Tri, Bill's Foam Alaia, Jordan's Performance Fish

Just finished a prototype shortboard for myself. Its a 5'9 pierformance diamond tail with a hinge tail and carbon skin stringer. The hinge tail in combination with the carbon skin stringer gives the board a faster rebound after flex giving more speed, agility, and lower swing weight perception. This system also flexes more naturally with the density of foam so you get more even flex, a stronger support system, and no more stringer dent. The s-glass and Resin-X also contributes to these features. For the outline I modified the template I used for matt and nicks boards to work better for a quad diamond. This outline will work really great with the quad/tri convertible fin setup so it is more versatile. Been thinking this shape out for a while and finally got the time to do it just before the fall waves. Will post ride report when we get waves.
I also am putting up the photos from John Smolenski's 7'6 big guy tri.
The Pics of the larger alaia is a foam alaia I just made for Bill. Its a little beefier than mine so its more user friendly. He has taken it out in some small beach break and said it was a blast.
I also finished Jordan's performance quad fish, just needs some carbon and glassing now. Pics to come when finished

Stuff going on

Marty and I are currently designing a board for Jordan. Right now it is a high performance fishy quad with a shallow moon tail. He wants the whole board carbon for strength and weight.
I am also starting templates for my own 5'10 diamond shortie. Similar to matt and nick's boards only with a little more forward center and a wider diamond tail to accommodate some quad fins. Going to be carbon deck patch/double s or whole carbon.

Ride report

Nick has ridden his 5'11 shortie a couple times now and has gotten back to me with some info. He says, "its really fast and responsive. It is way easier to paddle than I thought, So light!" Matt, Mark, Austin, and I have also tried it out with similar results. Really excited about where this shape is going.

Some Board Testing

Matt and I got some fun little waves the other day. I was riding the 5'5 with a quad set and matt was riding his 5'9 shortie.

About us

Risen Son Surfboards works in conjunction with No Quarter surfboards in Grand Haven, Michigan. All our surfboards are made for performance, durability, and surfability. We strive to make custom surfboards that fit the rider's style, ability, and wave characteristics. By doing this you are assured that you will have a board that will catch waves, maneuver with ease, and make you a better surfer.
We make our boards with the highest quality materials. We can shape polyurethane, eps, and xps; glass with epoxy resin, poly resin, and super high performance Resin X. Most of our boards are made with eps foam as it is lighter, whiter, and stronger than the old poly blanks. We glass these with epoxy resin and high quality "S" Glass for 30% more strength and 30% less weight. It is also better for the environment and the people that work with it because it is 100% voc/cfc compliant. You can also go stringerless for more consistant flex, no stringer dent problems, and a lighter board. Resin X is a new epoxy resin hybrid that is just as light as our standard epoxy but is much more flexible and ding resistant. Resin X is the material of choice for people demanding the highest performance in surfboards. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C0gypbU2PoY&feature=related
We can and have done pretty much every kind of fin and fin box so that is open. We do alot of O'fishl fin systems because they are affordable, easy to replace, and quick and easy to use. http://www.ofishl.com/
We also do alot of skimboards using alternative materials so if you want something unique we can always do that. Carbon deck patch?

We have also become well known for repairs and restorations....so if you have a board in need of repair or your old classic needs to be restored to its original glory then bring it by.

Update....pics to come

So heres the update.
Now working on some surfboard repairs and new boards now that there is a small break in between skimboards. We are now looking for another building to work out of. Also I am working on a 5'11 hi performance shortboard for nick and a 6'9 foam alaia for bill and his son.
The foam alaia has been ridden more and the results are great! It floats like a normal shortboard and is so fast down the line. Fun to ride prone in small waves too, can make it past all closeouts and flat sections. Matt has given me feedback on his 5'8 shortie now that he has ridden it a few times. He says,"its really floaty for a small board, catches waves easy, and really fast. It also stays in the wave and regains momentum quickly after a manover when you would usually sink. One of the best boards i have ridden!"
Based on that great feedback I have gone in a simialar direction for Nick's board just adding a little more foam to account for his weight and riding style.
I will post pics and a pricelist soon for those who are interested.

Some of our recent boards

So here are some pics of recent boards we have done. Lots more skimboards but they leave the shop so fast we don't take time to take pics of all of them. So these are 7'6 big guy tri for matt's dad, 53" skimboard, jobin's custom carbon skimboard, matt's 5'9 shortie with amazing art from drew, gram's 6'4 bump fish quad, #2 of alaia prototype project, 50" fish skimboard, and some of my personal boards= 5'5 5 fin, 6'2 shortie pier board, and 6'9 michigun.

Finally a blog to track the work we are doing

So now we have a blog that we will try and update with the new stuff that is going on here at the shop. New surfboards, skimboards, repairs, and local need to knows.

Some things that are happening right now are new skimboards every day, a carbon competition just popped out for jobin kuiper (team member), a couple of surfboards for the smolenski's, a new surfboard we got back from gram for repair, foam alaia's and other concepts, also keep a lookout for risen son and no quarter surfboards at Beach Biz Surf Shop in chinook pier in the next month or so. As it stands we are making a 9' longboard, 8'6 longboard, 6'4 lis style fish, 6'4 diamond shortboard, 6'2 swallow quad shortboard.
